Activities section advice

Hi everyone,

Just curious if anyone has any pointers on the best way to tackle the activities section of the application? I’m trying to get a head start on mine and am finding it challenging to distill down my activities to the space provided. How did folks decide what aspects of their activities to present?

Thanks!
Ryan

Choose the activities that you can show growth and show you working in different and diverse backgrounds. For each activity, tell a story, show your personal growth, show how you impacted the club/activity and how the club/activity impacted you personally. Remember it is up to the medical school to decide if you are a fit, not you, so don’t try to guess what they want by adding descriptions of the activity that describe how perfect it’ll be for med school.

In addition, here are some other things you can consider putting in:
For each activity:
•show the Past, present, and future- how activities are meaningful to you and other people
•show that you are hardworking, unwilling to give up, and persistent

Hope this helps!

I complete agree with Mchun!

Also make sure to choose activities that show commitment and interest, not just activities that “check a box”.

Also check out the AMCAS Core Competencies list. Choose and frame your activities in a way that demonstrates these values.

Thanks so much for the pointers, mchun and opolisstarman! Happy holidays to you both!
