On Judy Colwell’s website it says that she is temporarily not accepting new clients. I could really use the advice of an admissions consultant. Does anyone else know of a good one? Thanks!
I cannot speak to anyone specifically but I would think a good Google search would turn up a few and if you check their names, you should find ratings for them as well.
Judy is solid as they come. Candid, and sincere.
(That was not paid for btw!)
The National Assocation of Advisors for the Health Professions has a page to help people find advisors, starting ad your own school or alma mater and offering volunteers from their organization for those whose institutions do not provide advisors. Look here: NAAHP
Also feel free to come to conference and talk to other OPMers, representatives from med schools, and our expert speakers to get help with your particular problem. It’s a networking smorgasbord. I am sorry I am too lazy to make an umlaut there. It’s late and I’m on night float.
And edited to add: I see Judy is speaking at conference this year. You may well just need a one-off single consult with her (that’s all I used) and you can almost certainly arrange to do that with her at the conference.
I know some in New York as well,
Thanks for the kudos.
When you are looking for someone, be brutal in your research about their backgrounds and experience. How long have they been in business? Are they med students (or new docs) who have never really done pre-med advising? Are they admissions folks who have only seen applications for their own med school? (This is a difficult learning curve, transitioning from one med school to understanding the others “out there.” Been there, done that.) How many people are involved in the company? How many people will you be shuffled around to? Are you paying for more help than you really need? (Hourly vs. package deal)? What did they do before they got into admissions advising? Do your research!
Cheers,
Judy
