Any Other Prof to Pre-meds?

Hi I’m a bit new here have lurked for a while but never posted. I’m just trying to see if there are any others in my situation. I graduates 12 years ago from undergrad with less than good grades, C+ range. Then went to grad school for 7 years before burning out and escaping with MS in Math. Past five years I’ve been an adjunct instructor, ant lots of colleges. Lots of students in my classes I teach are traditional age pre-med, and I’m little worried about bumping into one while I retake classes elsewhere. Is there anyone else outthere who is going from teaching college to retaking pre-med classes?

Jeez just wrote a post and lost the entire thing (bad connection).

So, I was a researcher in a medical school a had a to leave (funding, psychological well being…). The academic game is a tough one for the nerves and the pocket! I have been teaching for about 2 years or so in different community colleges (Biology and Chemistry). I understand your concerns regarding meeting students in classes that you take.

In fact, in two instances, I met with my students and for two chem classes, my lab partners were my former students. So it was actually very fun and I enjoyed it very much. You don’t have to discuss your plans if you don’t want to. You can always say that as a teacher, refreshing your knowlege in the sciences will help you improve (which is true). Besides you can appreciate things from students point of view and keeping this in mind when you teach will certainly be a tremendous help. Most teachers were students once, but few teachers are current students.

I enjoyed meeting my students. Just be open and relax. There is no reason to be ashamed or concerned. Go for your dreams and don’t let futility come in your way. I am sure you will enjoy going back to school as I am right now. I started in spring 2010. Time flies, it is incredible.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reassurance redo-it-all. It always helps to know you are not the only one making an unusual transition. It sounds like I’m the same boat as you where I will be redoing it all since my course work is form 10+ years ago.

Paveenish, enjoy the ride. It is a long and tiresome at times. But definitely worth it.

FWIW, the oldest person in our class actually taught at the same med school he is enrolled at! So not only do some residents know him as their instructor but the faculty knows him too.
