Biochem Online

Hi there;

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for an online biochem course? I’ve completed the rest of my pre-reqs at a community college (4.0 science GPA) and now I am on the waitlist to take biochem in-class at different universities; I have last registration, since I’m not a current student at any 4-years. Since I want to take biochem before the MCAT, I’ve started looking into online courses, in case a seat doesn’t open up for me. Does anyone have any recommendations? My searches brought be to forums from 2006 or so… The one at Oregon State looks good, but it’s a quarterly system, so I don’t know how that would transfer. I’ve read mixed reviews about UNE and Berkeley as well.

Just wondering if anyone has insight. Also, did anyone take online biochem and get accepted or run into difficulties?

Thanks!

I took biochem through UNE back in 2013. It was pretty good info for an undergrad level course and had a medical spin to it so it felt somewhat more applicable. You have the standard issues about having an online course. I applied late in the cycle with 4 online courses for prereqs, was 15/15 for secondaries, got 5 interviews and got into school. I did a lot of research before applying to see what schools accept online credits.

I have heard that the O state biochem with Kevin Ahern is tough but really good. I didn’t take his course but watched all of his youtube videos and downloaded his book when I took biochem at a local state school to use as supplements. He is really really knowledgeable and passionate so it makes his material easy to learn. I did take Cell biology from his wife through O state online and it was really good too. I got an A with moderate effort. (fyi)
