Ok, I am having a difficult time not understanding but keeping focus. I know I’m retaining but does anyone have any advice or tricks they can teach an old dog in studying?

Use mnemonic devices whenever possible. Using the substitution method for remembering things works very well for me. Also, memories are recalled best if there is a visual component to them. So, if you can visualize a concept or procedure that will work better for recall. Above all, your goal should be to understand the info and see how it fits into the “big picture” of things. As you know, memorization for memorization’s sake not only is difficult but it usually doesn’t help when trying to solve a problem. And last of all, people remember best by repetition, so go over it again and again and again and again…
