Deferred matriculants--LORs?

Hello fellow deferred matriculants! I just finished filling out AMCAS (again). Had my transcripts sent to AMCAS (again).

Then it hit me today: do I need to have my LORs sent in (again)?

Maybe this varies by school, but I’m curious to see what others’ experience has been with this. I’ve also put in a question to Cornell’s admissions office, of course, to get an official answer.

I had to resubmit transcripts per AMCAS, but that’s about it. I called my admissions office and was told I don’t need to update my PS or re-do my work/activities section unless I really wanted to. For me, it’s a formality for metrics, as the acceptance has already been granted and med school is a “clean slate.”

Unless it was a conditional acceptance for some reason, I’d like to think that this should be about the same across the board.

Having to resubmit the AMCAS is for Cornell’s record-keeping purposes and the transcripts have to be submitted since AMCAS has to verify your application before transmitting it to the school. Since the letters don’t have to be submitted for the application to be transmitted to Cornell I can’t imagine that you’d have to resubmit those as well. And as kennymac rightly pointed out, the decision has already been made so Cornell doesn’t need the letters for the decision-making process. But you’re right to check with the school to make absolutely sure. Once you get the answer back can you share it with others here so everyone will know what Cornell told you? It will be helpful for others who might defer.

Thanks,

Liza

Thanks, to both of you.

kennymac-I imagine that is what they will say, but safest thing is to find out from Admissions Office for sure.

Liza–I will definitely post Cornell’s answer.

Heard back from Cornell (over the weekend–impressive). I do NOT need to resubmit my LORs. Thank goodness!

I’ll be submitting my AMCAS today, then, for the last time …
