Hello all!
I saw this site mentioned on Studentdoc and it seems like a perfect place for nontraditional students to get information. I am returning to the school after working in finance and banking, and it’s nice to find a place open to those of us who don’t to things the easy way
Sorry if this has been asked before (tried the search function), but after submission of applications to AMCAS and AACOMAS, how long does it typically take for schools to contact you about the secondary applications? Does it just depend on the timing of the application, due to the large number they receive?
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you.
It depends on how early/late in the cycle you submit, as that affects how long AMCAS/AACOMAS takes to process your primary and make it available to the schools.
There are two forums on SDN (in pre-allo and pre-osteo) with self-posted submit and processing dates, to give you an idea of how long yours will take. After your primary is processed I believe they submit it to schools each Tuesday. In my case as soon as the following Wednesday to several weeks later secondaries were coming in.
For the receipt of secondaries, it can take anywhere from a few days after submission to a few weeks to never. Some schools send them before your primary is even verified. Many send auto-secondaries after primary verification. Some schools screen the primaries and send secondaries to a select group.
Timing can also affect it since schools like to send secondaries in batches or waves. If a bunch of people applied before you, you may get the secondary after all of them.
So basically, it depends on a lot of factors.

In sum, it is conjecture, variable and not something that you should waste energy with FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt).
What is more useful is keeping detail record of what you have rec'd and timing, dates, who you contact, etc to followup if you have not.
By the way, welcome to OPM!
Sometimes it is even out of your control wen the secondary will get submitted. One DO school just sent theirs out yesterday. Really it isn’t anything you should concern yourself with, because there are basically three stages of secondary recievership
Step one: “Where are my secondaries?”
Step Two: “Oh Yay hey are comeing in one at a time”
Step Three: “Stop sending these, as they dump two or three on you a day”
Just sit back and relax.
