Hello

Hi! I had an awesome time at the 2011 conference and would like to thank everyone that put it on. I really learned a lot and had a great time meeting everyone. I’ve been pretty quiet on the forums so I am finally going to indrotruce myself.

I’m 30, went to a UC graduated with a major in Poli Sci but happened to have most of the pre reqs (I actually started as a science major). After college I was a pro snowboarder for 7 years but decided to ‘retire’ because I got really hurt ( broke L4 and T12) and knew my body just couldn’t take it anymore. I had just taken my EMT certification the month before I got hurt but realized I wanted to be able to do more. So I studied for and took the MCAT. I saw some posts about pre reqs and was worried that mine were too old, but I called 10 schools, including the UC, and was told by the private institutions that they don’t expire and by the UC’s that as long as I take 20 upper division units no one will care about the prereqs. I embarked on a DIY postbacc at the best 4 year institution in my area. It was really important to me to be in the most competitive environment as the main reason I was taking these classes was to show I could handle that level course. Durring my postbacc I also volunteered in a free clinic and did research at the county hospital. Those are both activities I continue to pursue and really enjoy.

Now I have just learned that my AMCAS application has been verified and made available to schools. I’m almost done with filling out my AACOMAS application. I’m really excited but also really nervous to see what happens this application process. Good Luck to everyone else applying this year!

Looking forward to yoru updates!! You have a great story and have prepared well!! Good luck!
