How did you pair your prereqs?

Hi All,

I’m am currently finishing up my bachelors with a plan to do an informal post-bacc after. As I am looking into registering for courses, I’m not sure how to go about this. Because I work full-time and can’t afford to cut back on hours, I plan to take my prereqs two at a time (there is no way around this). How should I pair them? Bio for me is a personal strength (I get As without effort), while I am a B+ student in chem with decent effort. I am not sure how I will do in physics, but math is a little but of a weakness for me. I am proficient in algebra, but it still makes me uncomfortable. Any insight into the best way to pair them in order to do well?

My program pairs them:

  • Bio I and inorganic chem I

  • Bio II and inorganic chem II

  • Physics I and orgo I

  • Physics II and orgo II

You’ll probably need to take biochem in there, so if you’re going fall/spring semesters, it could push your plans back. If you can do bio easily, it might make sense to take that over the summer, alone, then pair inorganic chem and physics together, and take biochem after you have orgo completed or nearly so.

If you need psychology, you can fit it in whenever.

I agree with Tallulah’s plan.

However, I have a question about your mathematics background. You say you are somewhat comfortable with algebra. You need to be more than somewhat comfortable, though, to be truly successful in physics. And what about trig? You REALLY need to be good with trig for physics as well. The math in physics really revolves around trig functions. Wanted to throw that out there.

Best wishes to you!

I agree with Terra. You may need to take additional math courses prior to taking physics. In my undergrad program, I had to take calc I as a prereq to physics I, had to take calc II while taking physics I, and had to pass physics I/calc II before I could take physics II. It was an engineering school, so you may have different requirements for your classes…
