Importance of Research Hours and Research Focus

Hi,

I am currently in undergrad after working as a firefighter/paramedic for 4.5 years. I have experience teaching EMT/Paramedic courses, 11K+ clinical hours, and 500+ volunteering hours overseas.

I understand that research is an important aspect of my application. I was offered a research position with a SensoriMotor NeuroPlasicity lab that seeks to find interventions that restore motor functions in patients with motor impairments.

I understand that research is an important aspect of my application. Is this focus of research sufficient for an application. If so, how many hours would I need to obtain?

Thanks

EDIT: In addition, this research opportunity is over the summer. I work and have classes over the summer so I am slightly reluctant to participate for the reason of avoiding burnout.
