Is taking a gap year to distance yourself from bad grades freshman year a good idea even with an upwards trend?

A non-physician family friend told me to take a gap year and get clinical experience before I apply to post-bacc programs to distance myself from my bad grades in undergrad. I’m about to graduate with a 2.1 AMCAS sGPA/3.0 AACOMAS sGPA, and a 3.4 cGPA. I was sexually assaulted my freshman year of college which is why my cGPA then was a 2.1. My trend is has been increasing since then from a 2.6, 3.8, and now a 3.9. I have to do a post-bacc anyways because I haven’t taken my OChem or BioChem pre-reqs but I just don’t know if I should take a gap year before or take it when I’m applying. Any and all help is appreciated.
