Midwest premed here. Anyone else old and premeddy?
Me! I’m definitely old! 36 with 5 kids. Went back to school last year after being a stay at home mom for 13 years. Graduating with my bachelor’s in mcb spring 2017. Taking the mcat in may!
You should be very proud of yourself!
Hey there, I’m so glad this exists! I’m 31 in Minneapolis, finishing up my prereqs and taking the MCAT this summer. I took three years of premed undergrad a decade ago but changed course, majored in music, received a master’s in music therapy and practiced music therapy for six years, the past five years full-time in hospice. I never intended to practice music therapy with adults in a medical setting - I wanted to work with children with autism - but the recession was in full force and I took what was available. After first working way too hard and then recovering from the edge of burnout, I learned to practice compassion in a healthier way, fell in love with hospice work, and eventually found myself with a strong drive to return to medicine, particularly geriatric psychiatry. It’s going to be a long road, but it’s so good to know I’m not the only one taking it. If there’s anyone else here from Minnesota who wants to connect over coffee sometime, let’s get in touch. Thanks!
I am no where near Minnesota, but I started volunteering with hospice this year and I love it. I don’t know how to describe it, why I like it so much. I think it sounds morbid to some people. it just feels good to be there for someone at that time and to have the opportunity to witness them go through the inventory of their lives. Everything is stripped away, and you see what it really means to be human. it’s so rewarding. because of my experience in hospice, I find myself drawn to geriatrics as well.
Hi! I’m an almost 32 year old who will be starting my pre-med classes on June 6th and who lives in Kansas City. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in counseling and I am excited and terrified to start this journey!

That’s awesome! It is exciting and terrifying at the same time!
I’m a 47 yo M1. Started at Wayne Medical in Detroit last July and have just finished my first 2 classes.
I’m in the Chicago area! Doing my postbac this year, and taking the MCAT/applying next year (2018). I put 3-ish years towards, but did not finish, my PhD in a healthcare-related field. Some days I feel like that experience wil be an asset, sometimes it feels like a huge liability.
Anyone else in Chicago/Milwaukee?
Hi everyone! I’m 31 and also from Chicago! I’m finishing up my premed classes at community college. I got my undergrad degree in business and had been running a cell saver company for the past 10 years. I spent 2015 on the road with my husband and dog traveling around the US in a tiny trailer. Decided during the trip that I wanted to do more and have started the process towards med school. I’m planning on taking the MCAT and applying this summer.
Hi Midwesterners,
I’m 26, doctoral candidate in biology at North Dakota State University. Hoping to attend med school in Ohio after finishing my PhD. My MCAT is coming up in May!
Hey Another Midwest peep… Titletown I can hear Lambeau from my living room (I know you’re all jelly)
Just switching course midstream. 35 yr old Mom of 5, currently doing nursing school with plans to be an RN to pay for Medschool…because I’m insane right?
