Hi everyone,
I am 38 years old and completed my undergraduate degree back in 1996. I started out school doing very well with a 4.0 GPA and as a chemistry major. Along the way, I became a teen mom and battled family, financial issues and depression. I ended up with about a 2.7 GPA.
Fast forward, I have worked in the health information field for the past 15 or so years but always wanting to figure out a way to get to medical school.
My daughter is now in college and I want to pursue my own goals now.
I just applied to 2 special master’s programs and am waiting to hear back.
I sure I hope I get into one of them. This would be life-changing for me.
If I don’t I have to come up with a plan B for next year so that I am not just wasting a year for the new application cycle to these SMP programs.
I took the GRE at the end of last month and got a pretty good score of 166 V (700), 156 Q (720).
I think I had excellent recommendations and a compelling personal statement.
Wish me luck. Getting admissions to these programs would mean so much to me.
Welcome and good luck!
That GRE looks like a little bit of a beast in the Q section to me…I may wind up having to take it at some point.
Good for you on taking the steps that you need to take; it seems like mulling over the decision gets in the way over actually making a move. Good work.
Welcome aboard!
Good success on the SMP’s. If you don’t get in continue to take classes. Continue to stumble forward.
Welcome and good luck!
Thanks everyone. The waiting for a decision is agonizing but also exciting.
Reminds me of what my daughter went through last year while waiting for college acceptances.
Boy, I really hope I am accepted but am trying to convince myself that I won’t be and starting to plan for next year as if I am not accepted, so that if I am not it will not be too disappointing.
" it seems like mulling over the decision gets in the way over actually making a move."
Yes! I did that mulling over phase for too long.
I just found out via email that I was accepted to my first choice Master’s program at a really good university.
woohoo!!!
Now I have to quickly make arrangements to be ready for school by the end of August.
I am so excited!
Congrats!

Well, I got into my first choice but was rejected by my 2nd choice.
Oh well
I just needed an opportunity, a chance…and I am so grateful.
I will indeed give it all I’ve got.
Congrats!! Awesome!!
