New member: 29, married, mother of 3

Hi everyone,

In the hopes of not becoming a lurker (something I’m very good at), here’s a little autobiography:

Over ten years ago, I started college with the intention of studying biology with a pre-med concentration. Being alone on a huge campus exacerbated some mental health problems. A few bad grades convinced me I’d never become a doctor, so I changed my major to a foreign language (I have a natural talent for languages, so it made getting good grades easy). A year abroad introduced me to my husband and a difficult pregnancy prematurely ended my last semester of college.

After my family moved back to the states, I decided sitting around at home wasn’t my thing, so I enrolled in the local CC with no real idea of what I was doing there. I waited over a year and a half before getting my transcripts from my old school and it was a wake-up call. I had completed 119 credits (1 short of graduation). Within a month I was enrolled in the nearest four year college.

I just finished my first semester. They didn’t accept all the credits I’ve finished, but I’m 5 classes away from a bachelors…but I’ve decided to do what I set out to do. I’m retaking the classes I did poorly in all those years ago. Since coming back to school (including CC), my gpa is 3.92.

I am now 29 years old, I have been married 8 years, I have three children, and I work as a line therapist. My mental health has been under control for many years.

At the moment I’m pretty focused on the goal (Medical School), but I know that as soon as the summer semester begins, I’ll go into survival mode and it’ll all be about learning the content and getting the grades.

Anywho/way/how…I’m glad to be here. Thank you for reading my story.

Hey, Kate - welcome!!

May have to change my sig to “older Kate”

Sounds like you are making great progress! I don’t underestimate what it takes to study with 3 kids -mine were still pretty young when I started midwifery school. I well remember taking them to the pool during the summer with my bag of books and getting in 2 hours of study while they played.

Best wishes!

Kate

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you’ve got all your wheels rolling in the same direction.

Wish you luck on your journey.

Welcome! Thanks for coming out of the shadows… best of luck on your journey!
