Anyone who is interested in applying for the National Health Service Corps should be aware that their applications for 2011-2012 school year opened this week.
If you have an acceptance for 1st year and are listed as a student, or if you are currently a student in good standing, you can apply for the scholarship.
It’s been written about on here before but it’s basically tuition, money for books, and a stipend (I think $1200 pretax) monthly. You do 1 year of service for each year of scholarship support and a minimum of 2 years. If you go to the website at www.NHSC.gov you can check out the sitees. Be sure to search by “scholarship recipient” and not “loan repayer” because the sites are different.
Applying again this year, but last year was 1600 + applicants for about 200 scholarships

It looks like this only applies to U.S.-based and U.S.-territory-based schools.
One also has to be a U.S. national, so those with green cards who are not U.S. nationals don’t qualify.
