Personal Statement

I’m currently writing my personal statement, and I’ve seen from different sources that you should bring up any red flags that are on your application. My first two years were not good years academically, and I want to talk about it. If I do bring it up, should I say that I specifically that I think that it was getting lost in partying too much over those first two years, or should I say a more vague reasoning?

Hi there,

I don’t really have an answer, but if you haven’t already check out the Premed Years podcast episode 161. Has some great insight.

Best of luck

Thank you for the podcast number. I’ll be sure to check that out.

My opinion would be not to focus too much on the reason why you weren’t academically successful earlier, but to focus more on your path to changing those behaviors, how you approached making those changes and why you have been able to succeed more recently.

I answered this question on the podcast that was released today! Check it out at http://www.oldpremeds.org/subscribe
