It looks like we are on a similar track. I plan on taking the MCAT this spring as well. Are you enrolled in general Physics or Calc based physics?

Anybody have any input on whether AF vs Navy vs Army makes a difference?

Yes, Air Force is best across the board. I may be biased.

I happen to think the Navy is best and yes, I am biased, as well

Just wanted to point out that the National Guard has a program, too. Since they are part-timers, it’s more of a tuition reimbursement deal, than a tuition free arrangement. Advantages and disadvantages to going this route. But being a weekend warrior means doing the military thing on YOUR schedule vs. “they own you.” I lean more to the active duty HPSP deal, but the National Guard tuition re-imbursement option is out there for those interested…

Does anyone have any updated info on this thread?

Does anyone know of any scholarships for post-bacc or non-traditional students? Aside from the Tylenol one listed in this thread, I have had a really difficult time finding any scholarships that I am eligible for. I have a BA and am trying to fulfill my pre-med requirements (hopefully starting Fall 2012). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Not really. I found a few for 3rd or 4th year med students, several that are very specific (you must grow up in X town, attend Y school and plan to practice ABC medicine) and a couple sketchy looking “like us on Facebook” and write an essay ones that are open to any medical related study (nursing, PA, etc).

Just search Google for “medical student scholarships” and click every link, then scour everything you find. Something might apply to you…

If my facts are straight, the Uniformed Services University of Health Science (USUHS) is free to attend and earn an MD in return for military service. You attend as an officer paygrade - 1 (O-1), which is roughly $3500-$4K per month which includes a cost of living stipend. The other catch is that you owe time in military service (choose Navy, Air Force, or Army) of approx. 7 years.
