Shadowing for Osteopathic Schools

Hello all,

Currently I’ve had the privilege to shadow an orthopaedic surgeon who is a DO.

So here’s my question:

For applying to DO schools they like to see that you have shadowed a DO right? So with the emphasis that DO schools seem to have on primary care do the adcoms like to see that the DO one has shadowed is a primary care physician? Or does is not matter?

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Hi there.

It does not matter. The main reason for being with a DO is so that you understand what it means to be an Osteopathic physicians and understand the profession and to ensure that you are not just using the school as a backup and stepping stone for an allopathic school.

And DO schools are not strictly for primary care. It really depends on the makeup of the class.
