Tonight I get to train on what I will be doing as a volunteer at UT Southwestern here in Dallas, TX. The position is called Rehab Unit. description is: answer telephones and patient call lights on the Rehab Unit from 7 PM - 11 PM. UT Southwestern is one of the finest Medical Schools and Teaching Hospitals in the country so I hope that it will be a great opportunity to both learn and work with professionals as well as looking good to the adcoms during application. (I’d be dishonest if I didn’t hope this would look good on application but It will also expose me to the environment of healthcare and medical school life)
more description… what do you think?
-answer phones -“how may nurse help you”?
-review patients with Charge Nurse prior to attending the unit
-report any special needs to Charge Nurse
-Assist patients with tasks such as writing, moving items, etc
-assist patient in filling out menu
assist with meal delivery
-assist in making deliveries, pharmacy, lab, records
The unit clerk IS the “heart & soul” of the ward, take it from me a former nurse!
Work hard, learn and enjoy
Good luck
Richard
