2008 Rejections

Adam,

I think it’s a good idea to keep the thread going and update! Not b/c we like reading about all the schools that hate you (just kidding )…but I know that every now and then we have a new person surfing this forum, who is freaking out about getting two, three or five rejections. They’ll probably find it uplifting, to see that even those who end up in a med school, often receive multiple ‘No’s’.

Kasia

I’m sorry to hear it.

I am freaking out over finances so I thought I would update my list of rejections (there are many):

Brown University - rejected because of an incomplete application

Albert Einstein College of Medicine Brown University - waitlist

Dartmouth Medical School - rejected

Drexel University College of Medicine - didn’t complete secondary

Emory University School of Medicine - rejected

George Washington University Sch of Med & Hlth Sci

  • rejected

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - didn’t complete secondary

Medical College of Wisconsin - rejected

New York Medical College - haven’t heard anything yet

Temple University School of Medicine - haven’t heard anything yet

Tufts University School of Medicine - didn’t complete secondary

UMDNJ- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School - haven’t heard anything yet but if I do…

UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School - accepted

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine - rejected

Wake Forest University School of Medicine - rejected

UMDNJ - School of Osteopathic Medicine - accepted

NYCOM - still waiting to hear something

Well, I don’t know, dude…but having two acceptances sound pretty cool. As for those med schools where you didn’t complete the secondaries…did they really reject you, or did you reject them? You never know what could have happened if you did the secondaries. I’ve also heard that NYMC and NYCOM are slower with their application process and usually NYCOM will go to OOS students last.

Kris

Hello Kris,

Yes, I am happy w/ my acceptances. Kasia said it gives others hope to show that many rejections doesn’t mean no acceptances. So I posted all the schools I applied to and gave the results. Also, I think the only school I outright changed my mind on was Drexel for personal reasons. The other schools, I didn’t think I had enough research experience to be accepted. Still though, after getting into NJ-SOM I don’t think I would have gone to either place either. So lets just say it was a mutual rejection :).

So have you decided where you are going to go?

Actually Gabe, no I have not. I like UMDNJ-SOM. It seems like a place where I could really succeed but I think a big part of my decision is going to come down to financing. I can’t complete my FAFSA until February 2008 at the earliest so I am not going to make a final decision for a while.

I am going to PM you a couple of questions if you don’t mind.

Wake Forest tells me “Although your application was in an interview category, we can only interview a small percentage of our applicants.” It sounds like they’re trying to say something nice. shrug Ah well .

Focus on the good. . .you’ve still got an acceptance in hand, Adam. It is Wake Forest’s loss. At the end of the next 4+ years, you will be called “Doctor”!

Stay positive dude! They sent me a letter w/ I think the same line. Maybe they wanted to reject me again but accidentally mailed the letter to you.

Got a recent GFY from Robert Wood Johnson, one of the UMDNJ schools.

On a side note, I’m somewhat surprised to find that I haven’t yet heard anything from 7 schools. With several of them, I’ve already confirmed my app was complete and in review. A gentle prodding may be in order .

You got into a few schools so far Adam so I am sure this one didn’t hurt. I will tell them GFY for you (nah, I won’t but its the thought that matters right! :)).
