2008 Rejections

Like Denise said, Adam, “Hang in there.” You still have interviews on your calendar!

Their loss! Onward and upward to the interviews ahead, Adam. All it takes is one.

David

I got my first rejection letter today from LECOM - Bradenton. Bummer.

But, there are still 13 other schools that have not rejected me…yet.

Sorry to hear that, StartingOver. But get that “yet” out of there . You’ll find the right match.

Hang in there Starting Over!

David

adam and startingover - hang in there, your time will come.

That reminds me of my plan for an interview after I get an acceptance... remind me to tell you about that sometime

It’s cool. I still have more schools to consider.

Thanks for the support.

I’m working on my Nova secondary now. They ask where I’ve applied (both D.O. and M.D.), where I’ve interviewed, and what my status is at all the other schools. Is that even legal?? I don’t see why it should matter to them, but I guess they are allowed to ask these questions. I don’t think it’s relevant (and it makes me a little uncomfortable) but I guess my choices are either 1) be honest and give full disclosure or 2) don’t submit it all.

I can see how such questions can make you uncomfortable. I personally never had to answer them in writing, but during one more my interviews I got asked how many other schools I’ve applied to, and what my status was. I didn’t lie, but I didn’t give a direct answer either. But again, in conversation it was much easier, b/c I had a chance to use my answer to redirect the conversation.

I guess it is legal to ask, otherwise they wouldn’t have done it. But I don’t see the purpose of it…other than maybe they don’t want to waste their time for interviewing someone who’s already had multiple acceptances at hand and is not going to choose their school.

Good luck with your application process, and I truly hope things will work out for you.

Kasia

Yeah, I got the impression that topic was somewhat off limits, as well. I only recall one school asking for it in writing, and that was optional. It did come up in my interview, and I was honest while redirecting. I described my decision process and led into some specifcis about what I’m looking for, rather than saying “well, I applied here, here, and here…”

Good luck on the rest!

I have two theories on this:

  1. They want to know in order to gauge how competitive other schools think you are. If you have other interviews/acceptances, it validates to them your competitiveness.

  2. If you’ve been accepted to other schools (especially ones generally considered “better” than theirs), they don’t want to waste time accepting you, figuring that you’re going to go to the other school.

Other than that, it may be just plain curiosity on the interviewer’s part. No idea.

Don’t sweat it…you have a slot in Cincy! And, Rochester is not the prettiest of towns anyhow. Their loss!

I'd just answer it and not spend much time wondering why they're asking, or how to answer. "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." The worst thing that can happen is they reject your application.

And - next comment is really for everyone else's benefit because I know Stacy knows this already - but if you submit your secondary very early, you can finesse this question a whole lot easier than if you're doing it so late. In fact you can even make it a bit of a butt-kissing answer: "While I am still in the process of determining the complete list of schools to which I am applying, I have always known that Dr. Nick's Hollywood Upstairs School of Medicine would be top on my list." Um, probably not quite that obvious but you get the idea.

Got a GFY from MCW. That’s cool - I didn’t want to hang out with Denise, anyway!

Adam, you've made my day!!!

But seriously...sorry you got the 'no' letter. But you're in already, and hopefully more acceptances will arrive soon so you can choose!

I guess I am naive...what's GFY?

Kris

MCW’s loss is Cincinnati’s gain…keep on keepin’ on, Adam!

my guess is the g stands for go and y is yourself...i will let you guess what the f might stand for.

sucks to hear about mcw adam but you already are in a school you like so that has to take the sting out a bit.

Oh…I get it now!

Thanks alot, obesedude and congrats on your acceptances. Which one are you leaning towards? NJ?

Haha, yeah... it's not an "official" term, just an artifact from my undergrad days. I kinda like it, though .

So what is considered propriety for this thread? Do you guys want to hear updates about where I don't get in? I was planning on updating all the threads (reject, iterview, accept) as I got em, just to share the process with everyone. *shrug*
