I’m doing homework before I jump into the trucking business. I’d like to hear from people who have lived through it. From what I’ve seen so far, it is not just buying a truck and then finding a load.
There are a lot of moving parts. Fuel is a major one. So is fixing and keeping equipment in shape. Insurance matters too. You also have to think about hiring drivers and how to keep them. Route planning can be tricky. Another issue is staying busy, because you do not always get steady work.
I’m also thinking about talking with trucking company consultants. I want a real viewpoint before I make big choices. If you have worked with a consultant, what did they do for you that you could not figure out on your own?
