I am a 35-year-old Texas-based criminal prosecutor planning a carreer change to medicine. My goal is to study and practice dermatology in Texas so that I can continue to serve Texas residents. But before I leave my current career, I need to know - am I too old to pursue a career as a dermatologist?
All the forums, websites, and recourses make clear that posititons for dermatology residendents are limited and highly competitive. My concern is that my age would prevent a dermatology residency program from taking a chance on me. Am I too old to embark on the path to a dermatology career? If not, what can I do to make myself a competitive applicant for a dermatology residency program?
Your input would be greatly appreciated, and I will gladly pay it forward. Thank you for your time.
