I see there’s another shadowing question on here, but I didn’t want to hijack the original poster’s thread.
My question is for those of you who have shadowing experience: How were you able to get around HIPAA regulations? Specifically, those rules surrounding Personal Health Information (PHI).
Did the doctor have you sign a form? Did each patient have to sign a waiver allowing you to be there?

My residency office had a form requiring that the observer would not divulge any information heard or overheard in the course of their experience… I brought my college student daughter to work with me one day and she had to sign it before she could sit in on our residents’ noon conference.
