I really recommend that anyone who is interested in McGill in future years seriously consider applying. I don’t know if I will go there yet but it’s an amazing and unique school.

Thanks! Yeah, I am in the process of trying to decide but to no avail just yet.
It will be very exciting for me to follow along with all the OPMers who will be MS1’s next year. There are so many of us, and it’s amazing what diversity of opportunities are out there for us. Looking back, I’m so glad I did the 3-year premed route rather than trying to apply last year, which had been my original plan. I’m totally excited to be starting med school–somewhere–this fall!

Last interview, and things just ‘clicked’ there. I loved it! The acceptance video from the admissions director was quite the nice touch. Nothing like hearing ‘Welcome to University of Michigan’ with the Michigan fight song playing in the background. I had goosebumps.

Hey, I have some interesting news for anyone who might be interested in attending a European medical school. I got accepted to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland! It’s a five year program and the only one in the UK I applied to that I’ve gotten into. When I was applying, I found that many UK schools didn’t really have a way to evaluate US applicants and others just didn’t take foreigners at all. None of the schools even asked for transcripts or for my GPA–although I’ll have to send Edinburgh my transcripts now if I decide to go. Edinburgh actually hinted on their website that they consider North American applicants and look at MCAT scores. So this means that it’s possible for someone to apply from the US without having grades, pre-reqs, majors, undergrad school, etc. being much of an issue. They look at MCAT score, degrees received, and other standardized tests taken. I remember how much I had to look around for information on UK schools taking American students–and now I know that it’s possible. While I might not go there myself, I wanted to share that news for anyone who might be thinking of doing something like this in the future.
I’m not sure I’m still as eager to take up a new existence overseas as I was a year ago, but at least this justifies all those forms I had to make my pre-med advisor fill out on specialty British paper late on a Sunday night last fall!
