Just tell me again that the diagnostic is meant to be low so that I’ll study harder.
Seriously, just took the 2015 diagnostic and expected to score MUCH higher since it’s not THAT different than the 2014 and I’d had a few months of Kaplan prep for the old exam under my belt.
Fail. Epic fail. I should stop being so stupid and just stop trying to get this thing done.
ADoc,
Sorry to take this OT, but have you attempted any of the Khan Academy practice questions? I was wondering how they compared with the AAMC diagnostic, in terms of difficulty, considering that KA has partnered with AAMC to develop review content. I’m not clear whether the practice questions were also developed in collaboration.
Also, from your other post, how did you come up with 516+ for a target score? If I understand correct from AAMC publications, that’s like a 37 on the old MCAT. Not saying it’s impossible, just trying to understand your thought process. My goal is a 507-510 - that should equate to 30-31 on the old MCAT. Of course, I’m mostly targeting DO (I know you’re not) although I will probably throw in a few MD apps in OOS-friendly Midwest places. For a CA resident, a 30 ain’t gonna cut it for MD here IS.
Hi DH,
I have not looked into KA as of yet for the practice questions. However, the physics lessons were instrumental in teaching me kinetics …
My goal score is 35+ (I added 117 + anticipated old score for each section * 4 … so 12+117, 12+117, 11 + 117 * 4 = 516 ish…)
Taking deep breath - I have 4.5 months to polish this, I did not really take my time, finished all the sections with about 10 minutes to spare …
Deep breath
Thanks for replying. Good luck hitting 516. I don’t mean that sarcastically or anything. I mean - I really hope you hit your target and I’m rooting for you!
If you ever check out KA’s practice questions, please update this thread with your impressions about how KA compared to AAMC’s diagnostic.
I took the diagnostic cold and bombed it. The course is designed to teach you what you need to know, how to use that info, and how to attack the test. You won’t have all of the info from the course until you’ve completed the WHOLE thing, so don’t expect to have killer scores for awhile. Just like everything else in this game, you have to have patience or you’ll just frustrate yourself. You’re not going to get every question right in class either since you’re still in learn mode.
If you’re going for the top 98th percentile, you may look at the top off program kaplan has (not sure if they have it for 2015). I thought the regular program was good enough to get me a little higher than how I ended up (32) had I really hunkered down in certain sub-areas. I was targeting a 31+.
Thanks, DH! I hope I get to that as well… 50 and rocking a 516+ would speak volumes for me
Thanks, Kenny! I am going for top 5% … is the top off program the high yield thing? I’m not sure I’ve heard of what you’re speaking…
Will ask in class.
STPM = CARS now, so maybe there is an equivalent.
Gawd that diagnostic made me ill… easy points I missed because I blew through it. But still…
