Disadvantage to apply to both schools???

Morning all!

So I was talking to a doc friend of mine and he mentioned that if one would be applying to both DO and MD schools then he or she would be at a disadvantage due to their indecisiveness.

Call me dumb but I’ve never heard of such a thing. Can some one confirm or deny said rumor??

Thanks!!!

How would anyone but you know that you did, even if there was such a disadvantage? The services don’t share information. Most people I know applied to both. I applied to both. Only a few asked if I applied elsewhere and if they do ask I just say I applied broadly to increase my chances but after touring your school today and learning more about it I would be honored if I could attend here.

Most schools admissions departments are so egocentric they don’t care. They want to believe that you are their one and only.

Fully agree with BaileyPup!

the AAMC/AMCAS (MD) and AACOM/ACCOMAS (DO)do not share services or data. Indeed, one of the issues for advisors, planners, etc, is getting reliable data across school types, which can only be done by survey. In addition to AMCAS and ACCOMAS, you have TMDSAS (texas), AACPMAS (podiatry), CASPA (physician assistant), and off-shore schools. Who are the people who apply to multiple programs, who get in, what does this say about the demographics and chances, etc.

The only recent and decent survey was done by AACOM of acceptees for 2010 class Link to survey

Being a survey instead of actual stats still brings in reliability issues.

Agreed with Bailey. I think you received some poor advice.
