Are there any differences in the DO in actual practice? I have heard that the DO is more open to non-trad students. Being a nurse-midwife I am learning toward the DO.

I’ve shadowed a DO and he did nothing any different than I’ve seen MDs do (both my own doctor and those I’ve observed while volunteering). I’ve also spoken to advisor from medical schools that have both and they only differences that were noted to me is that DOs learn manipulation and that DO schools are easier to get into. Both will accept non-traditional students if they are competitive enough. Hope this helps!

The short answer is that “no” there are no differences. The only ones who make distinctions are premeds not attendings.
