So I’m sitting here studying for my last physics exam (before the final), and I just found my motivation.
I don’t watch a ton of TV, but there is a new show on Discovery Fit & Health called “Facing Trauma” I swear to you–it is my new guilty pleasure.
The show is about a facial plastic surgeon who dedicates part of his practice to doing pro-bono surgeries for victims of massive facial trauma… the ones I’ve seen have all been domestic violence victims. These people look in the mirror every day and have a visual reminder of the horror of what happened to them, but by the end of the show, they are literally “reborn” because of this surgeon’s work.
They go through counseling prior to the surgery, and then he works his magic. No, he doesn’t heal the mental/emotional trauma–but healing the physical trauma goes a LONG way towards starting the recovery process.
I am in awe of this surgeon’s artistry. Again, the miracle of modern medicine… I don’t harbor any illusions of being good enough to be a plastic surgeon like this guy, but just watching these inspiring stories is giving me ALL the motivation to sit here and study rotational motion and torque and continue to press forward…
If you find yourself having some ‘blah’ moments, check out this show. It’s AMAZING. (Amazing in the gift this surgeon is giving people, and amazing in the ‘holy cow, I had no idea that procedure was possible’ medical perspective)
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming…
Hmmm… I may have to watch this.
I rarely watch television and don’t own a TV (nor do I want one; I am much happier without television), but this looks interesting. I wonder if I can watch if via their website or maybe YouTube?
