thanks so MUCH for all of your responses to my original question about the nephron. they links you gave me are EXCELLENT. i am now looking for a good text that clearly (and concisely) explains acid-base disturbances in the kidney. suggestions?

i use small guyton, but i have no idea what you are used to. I use Kumar and clark a lot for pathological stuff and use the online version instead of lugging the huge Clinical Medicine book around. There is a small version of that as well.
