Hello All,
I am a first year at a small school that tends to focus on primary care. I am not sure what I would like to specialize in but i have some interest in ophthalmology among other things. How do you go about finding summer research, a mentor, someone to shadow etc if you dont have many connections and there is no department with that specialty at your school? Any suggestions? Would it be inappropriate for me to call some physicians in the area out of the blue to ask about shadowing over breaks? I feel like I might need publications if indeed I decide to apply to a more competitive residency but am having trouble finding a summer opportunity that will likely yield a publication in my area. Any ideas appreciated!
