Hello,
I have graduated from a Russian University. Studied foreign languages as a part of my 5-year program. All the science prerequisites were taken here and my combined science GPA is 3.83.
I think my officially evaluated GPA of Russian diploma is around 3.27.
I did some volunteering as well.
What do you think about my chances? What is the application procedure with the foreign diploma?
Thank you.
How many credits worth have you taken in the US? It varies by place. Some only need 30 credits, most need 60, and some need 90, and there are a few that require a full bachelor’s degree. Other than that, if the rest of your app is up to par, I think you should have decent chances if you apply early and broadly.
The application procedure is the same - only difference is that you don’t need your Russian transcripts. However, some schools will require that you submit a WES or similar evaluation. The rest is the same as for US applicants and you can read about the procedure on AMCAS and AACOMAS websites.
Agreed with what is said above.
-Get started by having a course by course evaluation done by a “RECOGNiZED CREDENTIAL SERVICE BY YOUR SCHOOLS of INTEREST”. I highly recommend you contact the schools you want to apply to and see what they say (# of hours, what company they recommend for credential evaluations).
-Your biggest hurdle will be your immigration status. Unless you have a green card or US Citizenship, it will be difficult to gain admission (because you are not eligible for government loans)
- In term of numbers of hours, it will depends, but based on my own research at the time, you would need about 90 on average. Again, talk to the admissions at the school you want to apply to.
The bottom line is get in touch with the schools you target. With the information they provide, you will be able to set a clear plan and meet the requirements prior to applying. This will maximize your chances. They will also come to know you and I believe in my case, this was very helpful.
Good luck
