Hope I am not braging and it may not even be that bign of a deal, but I got my first MD secondary tonight. So excited that everything is moving forward, no I just need to find sometime b/t summer school and volunteering to get it done.

Was it a school that sends out secondaries to everyone as soon as your primary is received (as many do) or was it a school that only sends secondaries out to applicants by invitation only based on the competitiveness of their primary application?

Ugh…I’m still waiting for verification. I submitted my app June 2, but transcripts for last semester weren’t available until a few days later, so AMCAS didn’t receive that final transcript until June 8. I was under the impression that I’d be at beginning of the que since I submitted so early, but people who submitted 6/9 and whose transcripts arrived 6/8 (like mine) have been verified. There must be some other “method to their madness.” So I missed the first send-off to the schools on the 17th. I am anxiously awaiting my secondaries!!
Which raises a question. My advisor said these should be done with a 2-week turnaround for best results. If all 20 come at the same time, as I suspect they will, how is that possible? What is everyone else’s strategy?

That has been my fear as well.First I would say that applying to you top choices first would be good and then secondly applying in order of when they are due would be good.
Also from what I have read on SDN, most of the seconday essay prompts are similar so you might be able to use the same essay for many schools maybe just tweek it a little.
For example: most as “why do you want to be a DO”. Well you can pretty much write a why DO essay and submit it.
Awesome news about the secondary. Switz, I’m also waiting AMCAS verification but I didn’t submit until 6/15. However, that gives me a few weeks to write all my essays before I get the onslaught of automatic secondaries. I have a spreadsheet of all the schools where I applied, went to SDN, got all the prompts, and will write answers to as many as I can before I get them. Have to be proactive when it comes to this.
I second dessert_shawn’s advice. SDN can be a GREAT resource for finding the prompts for schools, as the prompts are usually unchanged from year to year. Also shawn, I read that one of the student’s used “Google Docs” to work on the prompts from any location. But bottom line, as achoed by someone else, get them completed in they order that they arrive. Best of luck!
