After watching this site and following many of your journeys for the better part of three years…Hello! I am a 32 year old, married, father of five who is on the very brink of beginning this journey. Like many of you I have a few “Beasties” on my old community college transcript that needed beaten into submission which leads me into my first ever OPM question. I understand that AACOMAS lets you replace grades, but how many retakes can you have? You see my previous “Beasties,” to my shame, were the same two classes which in youthful brilliance I took and let go 3 times. I have now returned to school at a 4 year University, where I have retaken both and recieved A’s. I would like to point out neither class was a math or science, and besides those 2 classes, I have nothing but A’s and B’s on either transcript. I honestly tried to find an answer to this before asking but couldn’t find one that nailed it on the head.
you need to add all of your grades to the application. AACOMAS, I believe, takes the highest one, no matter how many times you took the class. But since you are telling us that it is not part of the BCMP (Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics), then I would not worry about them too much.
As long as you can show that you can handle the course work with solid grades now, the past is just where it is, in the past. There is nothing you can do about it. Just make it a part of who you are.
Thanks for the reply and encouragement Gabelerman. It was a sociology class (yes I know, how is it possible to fail sociology!?)and a psychology. I now have A’s to sub so that is a definite load off my mind! Now just gotta sell it to my wife. Shouldn’t be too hard, I convinced her to marry me after all! Also, would just like to say that I have always enjoyed your posts and diary and found them inspirational. While I have one son, I like you have four Daughters so lots of pink and flowers in my house.
If you would like my wife to speak with your wife, let me know. she has done so in the past with other wives.
She was supposed to be on the spouse panel for the conference but money was too tight.
AACOMAS uses the most recent grade (not necessarily the highest) in GPA calculation.
I’ll have to wait and see what she says, but an awesome offer for sure. I’m going to talk to her about it on Friday or Saturday at the earliest. When I said I was a father of 5 I spoke true, I just left out the fact that number 5 is being born via Cesarean at 7am tommorow morning. She’s an awesome woman, Lord knows I don’t deserve her. That being said, I really appreciate the offer and if needed, I may take you up on it.
Excellent! Thanks to both of you for your clarification on the matter. I feel much more confident than I did.
