Hello to all,
I’ve been researching Naturopathic schools and was just wondering if anyone has checked into this as well. I know their scope of practice is much different from the DO or the MD but have they truly found a legit niche in the communities to practice what they do? I’ve been unable to locate anyone in this field here in the south (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, etc.
Thanks.
From what I understand Naturopaths only have practice rights in a few states out west.
It’s something I looked into briefly after first meeting a ND.
According to the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges, 16 states + DC, five Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands have laws regulating naturopathic doctors. http://www.aanmc.org/careers/naturopathic- doctor-l… On their website it looks like they have a calendar of events for conferences and college fairs. Maybe you can see if one of those are coming near your area and meet with a representative there.
Also the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians has a search to find a ND here http://www.naturopathic.org/content.asp?contentid=… I put in my old zip code from when I used to live in Alabama and it found 2 NDs.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the information.
I’m currently looking into Osteopathic medicine as well as Naturopathic medicine. Our family doctor of 16 years is a D.O. so access isn’t a problem. I just need to talk to a N.D.(or N.M.D.).
With your help, I was able to locate an N.D. back home in Huntsville, Al., which is about 3 hours away from Mississippi, where I currently live.
Just want to research both fields as I continue on the pathway of becoming an awesome Doc.
Once again, thanks!
I know a ND who spent time doing herbal medicine while living in Nicaragua. She went to naturopathic school in Oregon and took classes in Arizona, and is now living in Colorado. I believe she is doing mostly herbal medicine.
