Hello. Am Thinking of Med School and would love your input!

Hi–

I am 47 years old. I have been an RN in a ER at a busy inner city hospital. Love the environment and love my work. Emergency medecine fascinates me and am thinking of studying medecine. This is my second career–I was a photographer before this.

Very happy to have found this site and see that others my age are doing this too. I went to a top notch nursing school and graduated with a GPA of 3.2. So my questions are what are my chances of getting into med school with this? How much does the MCAT count in consideration of the admissions process? I am looking at med schools in maryland, the district of columbia as well as florida. So any info on these states/schools would be helpful. Also I have an atypical backgorund–having grown up in Latin America, and worked in conflict zones in the Middle East–and this actually helped me get into nursing school. Was wondering if life experiences also count in the admissions process at med school.

Looking forward to hearing from you and appreciate all the input. Thanks!

I believe gpa, gmat are important but they are not the only criteria. So no one can say that you can or cannot gain admission with 3.2 gpa.

I know that state schools in Florida highly favor residents therefore if you consider Florida I would recommend you to become a resident.
