Guyz, I have a questions about honor societies and such. I keep getting inviations in mail to join them all the time. Of course nothing is free, so they ask membership fees anywhere from $40 per year to $100 per lifetime membership. Is it worth anything? My answer would be ‘NO’. Anyone can see on my application what my GPA was and that I was on the Dean’s List. I seems stupid to me to spend money for some framed piece of paper, a badge and whatever they offer.

Unless being a member leads you to actual participation in the honor society, I don’t think it will give you an edge on your extracurricular activity. I did, too, ask my premed advisor and that was what he said.
