Legislative issues - AMA or AMSA or?

I’m an M1, but I have a public health background, and I’m still very interested in health and medical legislative issues on both the local and national level. I joined the AMA Student Section, and attended a state (and upcoming national) lobby day, but I’m getting the sense that the AMA-MSS is more for self-absorbed sycophants and party animals than old policy nerds… well, at least at my school chapter.

Is there an alternate organization that frequently addresses health care issues and its impact on physicians, perhaps one that is a bit more open-minded about student input, and less dependent upon a specific school chapter? I’ve heard about AMSA, but I also hear it has a pretty direct political stance - which I may agree with, but I like to hear diverse viewpoints. Other suggestions? I don’t plan to run for office, but I’d hate to silence my voice and just back out of the arena because I’m not young and pretty enough…
