Looking for Advice, career change.

Hi -

My name is Jen and I am looking to change careers to go the pre med route. I currently cannot see myself being in the tech field anymore, and it would make me very depressed if I had to do this for the next 20+ years.

I live in southern california. Ive taken some bio/chem classes when I was an undergrad only general chem and general bio classes. after those classes i switched to computer science.

Im 30 years old and this looks like a long long road ahead but I am willing to make this commitment of time and money.

I need to stay working as I take care of my family and pay bills, my parents are older.

Would you recommend a DIY route or post bacc? Does anyone know of evening post bacc in socal?

Are there any things I need to keep in mind if I do a DIY? Also can I take classes at different colleges and send in a conglomerate of classes/grades i have taken to Med schools when I apply?

I am also signing up to volunteer at a clinic and also shadow a doctor.

Any advice or information on how I can do it right time would be helpful!

Thank you!!

Jen

These beasts are hard to come by here in SoCal. And even if you choose DIY, evening classes can be hard to find. This will inevitably lead you to the next topic - courses at community college. That's because most CCs do offer evening classes. There are no easy answers but if you're willing to move, I know places such as UM College Park and Drexel have evening post-baccs. There are probably other programs but those are the two I know.

Actually, in SoCal, the SoCal Univ of Health Sciences in Whittier does offer a weekend only postbacc with classes all day on Saturdays and Sundays. Exams might be on the weekdays, but I think they are scheduled in the evening. I looked into this place but was not fully convinced that they were a program worth my money, so I'm taking my classes at a CC. Anyway, good luck to you, and please update this thread if you have any new info or questions.
