Hey y’all,
I took the MCAT for the 4th time yesterday (guess I am either stubborn or deteremined). Previous scores have been 19-25-24. I have had 27-29 on 3 of my practice tests leading to the test. The schools I am interested in would likely extend an interview with that range but I do not feel like I scored anything near that yesterday. The schools I want also told me they take the most current MCAT regardless of the number of attempts. I do have applications in at these med schools currently.
I want to retake in January as I am set up for the study material. I am a tough soul, but it is tough to take this a 5th time. To beef up my application, I volunteer for a medical mission service and will go on my second medical mission trip in Nicaragua in March. Also, I work full time as a hospital pharmacist.
It is certainly tough going through the MCAT process because I feel I know the material better than I can demonstrate on the test. I have taken vacation days to study, study at work, broken up with a not-so-supportive boyfriend and quit drinking (just a social drinker but I live in New Orleans).
Any support for this crazy endeavor is appreciated! Am I crazy for trying so hard at something? Also, I am having trouble registering for another MCAT currently – anyone know if there are spots available for January 2015 for the pre-2015 exam?
Thanks much in advance!! Good luck to all!
Hey I feel you! I have a problemo with my gpa despite my last 70 units and upper divs in bio being a 3.6 I still only have a AMCAS gpa of 2.73 and a sGPA of 2.33 and with all my units there is nothing I can do to save it except take another 4 years of classes and all A’s to get a 3.0 cummulatively. On top of my 6 years of classes. So I know how it feels to be either crazy or very determined. Hah.
And for your jan 2015 MCAT question I just got a spot in LA for jan 15 2015. Check AMCAS in the early morning around 3AM-3:30AM PST. I know that sounds crazy but they seem to release a good amount of seats at this time. AAMC also said they will release more seats for jan in select cities in 2 weeks, so check their Twitter out. And if I can make a recommendation, I really like the Berkley review books for review since it has a lot of passages and I follow the sn2ed schedule from student doc. Maybe you can use that for tips and guidelines to help improve your score? Anyhow good luck again with everything
Have you considered your AACOMAS GPA with retakes? You may have a shot too with your higher recent GPA at schools that don’t screen for GPA. Might be worth a question to an admissions office when this cycle starts to slow down.
Don’t take it in January, with your schedule/profession it’s going to be extremely challenging to fix your “testing issues” then prepare for the exam.
I am retaking in 2015 for the 3rd time as well. Sucks. Idk what I need to do to guarantee success. Hit me up if you want to chat about MCAT issues that won’t go away.
