Military Service Medical School

Has anybody out there considered joining the military? Aside from serving your country, it can be a way to finance your medical school education. I’m not sure if there are age limitations. Anybody have any info?

As of 2002, active duty age limit was 35 at time of commission. That may have changed since Iraq/Afghanistan escalation stretched the medical corps thin. For reserves and Guard, I think there are certain exceptions that will allow you to join into early 50s, but this may vary from state to state and branch of service. If financing med school is not an issue, military contracts and military locum tenens are also interesting practice opportunities for civilian docs looking for something different. Good salary and benefits, at least some accountability by the patients for their health issues, no overhead or liability.
