My practice score... OK?

OK… so I just took the 2003 MCAT as my initial step to see what I do and don’t know. My estimated scaled scores are below. Does anyone know how this rates compared to others? Obviously I have some areas to study before taking the real thing.

By the way, I purchased the practice test (with solutions, explanations, and study plans) at e-mcat dot com for $35. To me, this seems like a great deal since I have seen other programs for MUCH more! And the website is from AAMC… so they are using actual MCAT’s from the past. I could do the entire thing online with immediate solutions, etc. I had the option of printing it but didn’t.

My undergrad GPA is 3.49.

Composite: 24

Physical Sciences: 08

Verbal Reasoning: 10

Biological Sciences: 06

TOTAL: 48

Your total isn’t really 48 - it’s 24. The MCAT is a 45 point total score (+ the writing component, which is a letter). Each section has a maximum score of 15. A 10 in verbal reasoning is slightly above average. An 8 in Physical sciences is about average and a 6 in biological sciences is below average. Overall a 24 MCAT is below average for accepted applicants.

Thanks for the clarification!! I thought 48 sounded very high seeing that I missed so many questions. Hopefully, now that I know in what areas I need the most help, my next practice test score will be higher.

The college that I want to enter has an admission policy for 18 to 20 as a minimum… given other characteristics in the person (solid GPA, background, etc). Still, the MCAT covers these areas for a reason. I will need to have this basic knowledge to do well in medical school. I need to know the concepts tested in the MCAT before moving on to admissions.

Thanks again!!

You can find the statistics for each year at https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/mca t/admissionsadvisors/mcat _stats/ . Keep in mind when looking at the average scores provided that those are for ALL takers. The average score for students accepted to medical school is even higher than that. For example, the average composite score is ~25 for all takers, but ~28 for medical school matriculants. Those stats can be found at https://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantm atriculant/, specifically Table 17.
