Natalie stopped by for a few hours on Tuesday. She was on the way to see her mom (between Charlottesville, VA and Washington, DC). To come down here to visit me was kind of out of her way, but being the great friend she is, she came anyway.
We went to dinner at the local Mexican restaurant, and had a great time talking about lots of things. But, the one thing Nat did for me that she always does, is lift my spirits and make me realize that failing the COMLEX the first time around isn’t the end of the world. I have been telling myself that over and over, but somehow having a friend like Nat sit there and discuss it openly with me really helped.
So now, I want everyone to think about Nat’s mom. She is having surgery today, and I just want Nat to know that my thoughts and prayers are with her and her mom.
Nat is a very special lady…but so are you my dear. As we talked about, all will be fine. Failing an exam, any exam - no matter how important - is not the end of the world. Remember, as nontrads, we KNOW that our value as a person & as a professional far exceeds anything a simple balance sheet of successes & failures can demonstrate.
I will be thinking of Nat’s Mom tomorrow while I am on call…again…in the ICU.
