Pre-Convention Patient Safety and Medical Quality Symposium
On Wed., March 11, AMSA will host a multi-disciplinary pre-conference symposium on patient safety and medical quality. From the safety of our operating rooms and clinics, to educating our patients about their health and health care, to providing evidence-based screening and low cost - high impact interventions, this is a do-not miss event. Pre-Convention IFMSA Exchange Summit
On Wed., March 11, AMSA will host a summit for current IFMSA exchange officers and any chapter leader interested in establishing an IFMSA exchange at their chapter. By participating in this summit, you would be positioned to coordinate exchanges with students from anywhere in the world with a medical student association – and make it possible for you and your colleagues to study medicine for a month abroad! Rally and Lobby with AMSA’s Physicians-In-Training
AMSA is about ACTION, and Thursday March 12 will bring us to the streets of DC and into the halls of congress with our rally and lobby day. First come together on the steps of Capitol Hill to make our voice hear to our nation’s leadership. Then continue the experience and lobby with your individual Senator and/or Representative and advocate for change!
Convention Programming – Vanguard Sessions and Inspiring Speakers!
AMSA’s national committees and interest groups have organized more than 100 programs to educate, empower and excite. Come and engage with our national leadership around international health opportunities, the global HIV/AIDS pandemic, health quality, pharmaceutical policy, careers in health policy, reproductive rights, social responsibility, alternative medicine, student wellness, LGBT health, curriculum reform and so much more; there’s something for everyone! Clinical and Career Planning Workshops
Convention will feature career sessions that include test preparation, becoming a resident, specialty choice topics. Also, come join in the ever-popular clinical skills workshops including suturing, casting, AED and airway management. Friday night’s Residency Fair & Specialty Showcase will bring representatives from dozens of residency programs and medical specialties who will speak with you about their fields. In addition, represent your medical school at the Medical School Fair, and bring the next generation of AMSA members to your school!
Special Premed and Resident Programming
Premeds have dedicated sessions addressing choosing medical schools and medical admissions, as well as the opportunity to meet with school representatives at the 11th annual Medical School Fair. Medical school students and residents can look forward to coverage of hot topics in residency training and the practice of medicine.
House of Delegates
A vital part of the health and evolution of our organization is AMSA’s House of Delegates, where chapter delegates set AMSA policy by voting on resolutions submitted by AMSA members. Chapter delegates also vote in the national office candidates who will lead our association. You will also hear official reports by the executive director, national president and treasurer. Leadership Opportunities
There is no better place than AMSA to become a leader in medicine today. As the nation’s largest, independent student-run organization, AMSA offers an unprecedented number of leadership positions for medical students. National opportunities are available in community and environmental health, global health, health policy, humanistic medicine, LGBT health, medical education, minority health, premedical leadership, women’s health and many other areas. Become a member of AMSA’s Board of Trustees, Board of Regional Directors, or Action Committee Executive Board to lead the national priorities of the association.
