Non-medical/hard science research experience

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience writing about non-medical/hard science research during the application process.

I’m a non-traditional career changer. My undergraduate degree is in the social sciences. I was a McNair Scholar as an undergrad and completed my own independent research project while also assisting with my faculty mentor’s research projects. I continued working on another independent research project into graduate school. I also have experience presenting at national conferences. I worked as a graduate assistant, which allowed me to serve as a teaching assistant and work on faculty research, but again, not in the medical/hard sciences.

How do adcoms view non-science research? I’m working full-time in public service and completing a DIY post-bacc to complete my prereqs along with trying to find clinical experience and shadowing, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to find medical/hard science research experience.
