Old Pre-Phud must-read story

from today’s Washington Post:

Better Late Than Never

More than 35 years after quitting school to pursue rock-and-roll stardom with the band Queen, Brian May is finally getting around to finishing up his studies.

May, 60, was expected to wrap up work this week on his doctoral thesis, “Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud,” the last component of the astrophysics studies he began at Imperial College, London, in the 1970s, Reuters reports.

May was researching interstellar dust when he formed Queen with singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor in 1970, but dropped his studies when the band had increasing success. After Mercury’s death in 1991, May recorded several solo albums and co-wrote a book about astrophysics that was published last year.

After submitting his thesis to Imperial College, he will have to wait until university assessors approve his work before he’ll be awarded a PhD next year.

Haha, thanks, Mary - that’s awesome. Talk about being multitalented…
