VCOM-Va has a great Open House. My wife and I have gone twice. It’s very informative and very motivating. One thing you may not know is that some school’s begin a file on those who attend their Open Houses and if you apply to their school they look to see if you’ve attended an Open House. If so that helps solidify that you are serious about attending their school. Just food for thought. Any little bit helps and when a school can put a face and the face of your beautiful spouse to a name on an application can make the difference between a fat envelope or none at all.

My wife asked me this week when the next one was. They motivate her and keep the dream alive and burning for her as well as for myself. Not sure where I’ll go to school but if you’re looking for a way to make this experience more of a reality, go to an Open House. By the way…you don’t have to wait for an Open House to speak with the school. Give them a call and see if you can drop by during the year… hint, hint, hint…

Not all Open Houses are a great experience. We’ve gone to others that helped us decide not to even apply to the school so they’re great in that regard as well. Not gonna name any schools but there are two that I know I will not apply to because one we didn’t care for the atmosphere and the other I didn’t care for the facilities. Heck when the Director of Admissions is hitting on your wife…kinda let’s you know that’s not the place for you…

I agree. I just went to one recently, and I am only in the prereq stage of this journey. Go to one, no matter how far out you are from applying.

It does make things more tangible to see the four walls, the students scattered around in their study niches (heads bent over and very focused), the mockups, the ‘clinic’ rooms, the posters, cadavers, etc.

I did not realize that some have files on open house attendees…interesting!
