Hi all. I apologize if this question has already been asked (I’m fairly certain it has). I searched the forums but wasn’t able find anything. Anyway, I just started taking pre reqs at my local university this semester, beginning with Gen Chem I and Bio I. I was really hoping to be able to take Chem II this summer so that I’d be ready to take Orgo I in the fall, but unfortunately it’s not being offered in the summer term.
My question is, do the majority of medical schools prefer that all pre reqs be completed at the same institution? I understand that it could be a hassle to transfer credits between the two universities but I would really like to knock out Chem II this summer. Thanks and I hope everyone is having a successful semester!
I don’t think it really matters, honestly. I switched midstream because the night classes I needed this year (Physics and Orgo) weren’t offered at the time I needed them at my first school. So I hopped over to another state school last summer.
From the conversations I’ve had with admissions people, that isn’t anything to worry about!
I’ve done the same as Carrieliz, taking several courses at one state university and then jumping to a second state university when the first didn’t have the class I needed at the time slot I needed.
I don’t think it matters that you’ve done work at different schools so long as it doesn’t give the impression that you’ve done the “easy” classes at the university and then jumped to take the “hard” classes at a community college.
Unless you are trying to fulfill a degree requirement, there is no need to transfers credits between the multiple schools you are attending for Post-bacc. When you fill out AMCAS or AACOMAS, you simply list all the schools and you have transcripts sent in from each school
My schools required all my transcripts for admission, even as a “non-degree seeking student.”
But that wasn’t about transferring credits or making sure that certain classes counted for a certain number of credits. It was more to aid in course registration. I had to show that I was eligible to register for the classes I needed. (i.e. I was taking Organic, so I had to show that I’d taken Gen Chem, etc.)
If you aren’t trying to get a degree, there is no need to worry about which classes transfer for how much credit, etc. Just do what you need to do in order to get the classes done… but as mentioned earlier, don’t go backwards. (If you start at a 4-year school, don’t hop to a CC…)
Are we having fun yet???
