Alright, so I applied to Columbia Postbac Premed program. I am a graduate of Media and have worked in the media field for over 2 years. I’ve always loved medicine but never had the guts to make the shift in careers and I did. My GPA is 3.35 and I have been working in medical NGO’s for over 6 years and currently running one now.
This is my first time into taking the leap for the future I truly desire, to be able to help people every hour of the day, but the wait for Columbia is killing me.
I just would like to know if anyone has any idea of their acceptance rate or when exactly will they reply for the fall semester.
Welcome aboard!
No idea on your questions.
I mean how many students does Columbia postbac premed usually accept?
And when exactly would they get back to me with either a letter of acceptance or rejection? I’m applying for the fall.
I’m pretty sure Croooz meant he couldn’t answer your questions, not that he didn’t understand them.
I’m not an expert, but I’ll say if Columbia started accepting applicants Jan. 1 and works on a rolling basis until last month’s deadline, there’s a chance there aren’t many seats left for the fall. I have zero inside info on this and it’s just a guess. But applying early is always preferable.
That said, an NYTimes article about post-bacs mentioned Columbia had 600+ people in the class.
Many post-bacs don’t release their acceptance rate, so if it’s not easily found, they probably don’t publish the info.
Have you listened to my interview with Dr. Rosner from Columbia? - http://www.medicalschoolhq.net/session10.

Good luck!
I popped on over to the AAMC’s website and found their summary page for the program, which is somewhat less helpful than it ought to be. The relevant points to your question:
- Quote:
- Enrollment: 100+
- Applied to Medical School Previous Year: 51+
- Accepted to Medical School Previous Year: 51+
I don't know if there's a category higher than 100+. So the metrics seem to leave room for a program with 102 students of whom 99 applied to medical school and 98 were accepted, as well as 300 students of whom 90 applied and 52 were accepted. In any case, the pages lists their phone number as 212-854-7961. Give them a call. The answer to how many of their students apply and are accepted to medical school is what the program's success hinges upon. They'll have specific numbers to answer your question.
