I am entering into the B.S Public Health degree as a transfer student and I have finished all my gen. req. classes except my science ones. I did this so that as I enter into my degree program I can also begin to work on my pre-med science classes. My question is, am I suppose to take my pre-med classes along with my public health classes in a single semester? I am also a full time mom of three and do volunteer work, shadowing, etc. So is it better to take them separate or not? Also, if anyone has gone the Public Health route to apply to med school, can you tell me what kind of class schedule you used to finish your degree and pre-med classes on time? Thanks for reading.
I haven’t done the schedule you’re talking about, but it would make sense to me that you take a med school pre-req class or two a semester. I would think some of them are included in a public health degree.
The most important thing is that you do well in the classes. If you’re going to school part-time, I’d try to take a med school pre-req a semester as part of your course load. If full time, maybe two at a time. If your academic load is heavy and you have outside responsibilities, maybe 1 a semester makes sense even if you’re full time. It’ll just take longer, but this isn’t a race.
Most schools, a minimum, require 2 semesters each of biology, chemistry and physics, and recommend some upper levels and additions, like biochem, biostats (good for public health), etc.
Does your new school have an advisor for you? If you haven’t gotten the info yet, I’d call up the school and starting asking until you get transferred to the right person. It sounds like a meeting to map out your future is in order.
Yes I just scheduled an appointment with the proper advisor, so hopefully everything will be sorted out for me then. Thank you for your help!
